North of England Championships & Beat the tram at Beamish & Jesmond Dene Handicaps

Some people just compete because they enjoy it. They train hard and go to meetings that people from the club don’t tend to hear much about. It is a shame really that all the accolades seem to go the direction of young athletes, when senior or older athletes are working hard trying to improve their PB’s and rankings. Here are a couple of mentions for the older athletes who never seem to get a mention:

Katy Wilson, from the throwing group has recently competed at Liverpool and Birmingham, She was 2nd in the North of England Championships at Liverpool and 4th in the AAA’s at Birmingham, well done Katy. (No distances given Kate, but I am sure it would be further than I could throw)

Pat Kelly our record breaking athlete (more races than anyone at Birtley in a year) competing at Jesmond Dene in the handicap series came in second this week.

Lee Millmore was second, and actually beat the Tram in the race the Tram at Beamish, Karl Oakes was third in the same race, but unfortunately they were an incomplete team, and missed out on a certain team prize. Bethan Oakes was running also and I think she was overall fourth in her race, but first girl in her age group, so well done Bethan.

Well done to all the above, and if you feel you have been missed, let us know we will give you a mention.
