Blaydon Relays 14th October

It was another busy day in the Bailes' household. Mark was playing football at Peterlee, and Adrian was running at Blaydon 30 minutes after the football finished. Now I have to say that I drove safely….but we would have made it in time to see Ade run had we not got stuck at the level crossing quarter of a mile from the race!!

When I arrived Robbie was on his way to his football and Adrian was out on the course, Sophie Forster had run her leg in the Under 13s races, and Bethan was flying round the corner the clear leader in the second leg. Adrian came round shortly after Bethan, having extended the lads lead. Then Sophie set off for the final leg, and convincingly won the team race. Sophie also picked up the fastest girlie leg award as well. In the second team there were good runs from Rachel Todhunter, Paige Gilhespy and another newcomer Molly McArdle. Well done to We had a new lad running for us this weekend in the Under 13 boys, Shaun Ridley. It was a baptism of fire for him as he was handed over in first place for his first ever race. All credit to you Shaun you did very well, and managed to hang on to second place, and won the lads the second place medal. For the second year running this course has had a slip up when the lack of marshals meant that one of the bairns from another club took a wrong turn, a shame but these things happen.

Only one runner in the under 15s, a girl, Steph was footballing, so Holly Baardman was the lone runner, no lads at all!!

The seniors had a good team out, with Karl, Zak and Richard Hopkins. All did well, but I didn't get their positions.

The vets managed a team with Paul Laidler, Pat Kelly and Vince Taylor. Similar thing to the younguns, somebody got lost and Vince had to give them directions back in. I wouldn't have told him the way, you should have sent him round for a second lap Vince!!

I have to say though the under13s are flying at the moment, both girls and boys. The girls won the cup for the club, and Our Sophe got fastest leg, and Robbie and Ade both got fastest and second fastest leg. It looks like this year should be a good one for that age group in the club.

Our Tracy had a great run in the senior ladies race. She was second in the first leg, well done Trace! I know you said you were disappointed, but we still think you did great!!!
