NEWS UPDATE

1. Track Development.

We are currently awaiting both leases from Gateshead MBC.

2.Athletes Participation.

A lengthy dicussion evolved regarding why athletes in ALL groups do not compete in the various league events. It was agreed that through the last few years that the mentality of competition was not stressed to all new members, as now a large percentage of members do not compete, then new members think that competition is NOT required. This attitude has to be changed particularily if we are to attempt to raise large amounts for the funding of the new track. People have to see Birtley Vests on the line at ALL events.

3.. Coaching.

Anyone who would be interested in becoming a coach please see Ed Lown on any club night.

4. Sponsored Coast to Coast Run.

An excellent weekend 142 miles completed in 18 hours 46 minutes. A total of £1353.08 was raised well done to everyone.

5. Monthly Meeting

The next monthly meeting is on Monday 8th September in the clubroom in Lord Lawson School at 7:30pm. ALL members are welcome.

6.Bag Packs.

We have completed our first bag pack with excellent results.We are now looking forward to our next bag pack at Sainbury`s at the Team Valley on Saturday 18th October.These are excellent fundraisers for the club and we could make in excess of £800 if we get enough volunteers. So please try and help even if just for a couple of hours especially in the afternoon.

7. Clubmark.

On Thursday 29th May our Clubmark was reviewed by England Athletics. We are pleased to say that our status has been confirmed with the reviewer most impressed by the way the club is run and the numbers of athletes training on the night.
