A Shildon Scorcher!
Here we go again, footy and athletics all on the same day and, as YB's bestest substitute (or should I say ONLY substitute) I get the reporters job again. Not a chore I hasten to add as it's a great day out for a chat and ee-by-gum it was a hot one!!!
After taking the scenic route to Shildon (I was only pretending we were lost Ade honest!) we arrived at the sun baked stadium with thousands of others, ready for the afternoons events. Birtley's official photographer, Sam was there like a David Bailley in shorts taking everyone's photo as they competed and some even when they weren't competing! (Steph what a poser you are!!! Even with next to no sleep too!)
Alan sporting yet another new hair do - what ever colour will he come up with next-it'll be grey one day you know. Anyway he sprayed on the sunscreen having failed at unscrewing the top at the first attempt -hee hee- you thought you'd got away with that one didn't you, but YB is not the only one who misses nothing - it's the reporters job you see. (Apparently Ade and Robbie have a quid on you coming with green hair next time- is it worth me giving Ade a quid? Brian says any colour would do him!!!)
Our favourite non Birtley runner - Tracy - "speedy" - Laws arrived with Tommy and his son - her boyfriend. Tracy had run yesterday in Birmingham and proudly displayed her National medal before taking Lee and Karl for a 45 minute warm up - that's why I don't understand sporting terms, how could anyone need to warm up on a day like that!
Lots of great performances on the track and in the field events - technical details will be reported by the experts as usual, but he's a quick resume:
Kate - 100m and 200m and possibly the long jump ·
Kayleigh - 600m and Cricket ball throw ·
Our Sophe - 200m and 800m ·
My Ade - 100m and 800m ·
Paige - 800m and 200m ·
Monique - 3000m ·
Alan - 800m ·
Richard - 800m ·
Steph - 800m and 200m ·
Bethan - 200m and 800m ·
Chelsea -100m , 200m and 800 m ··
Jordan - 100m and shot putt ·
Robbie - Playing for Swalwell FC won their early morning match -oops a footy score slipping in there · Mark - May as well since I mentioned Robbie's team too - winning 2-1 against Newbottle- cum on you whites!!! Apologies if I've missed anyone out.
Peter's picnic wasn't as big as the one he takes to Carlisle unless he'd hidden it somewhere or disguised it in amongst someone else's instead. The bright sunshine did however bring out the sun worshippers (Peter) and I did think to myself that that basting stomach would make a very good base for frying eggs or barbying - if only I thought to bring the burgers!
Must not forget to mention and congratulate Birtley's latest newly qualified level 2 coach Vince, well done on yesterdays achievement not least for keeping my three lads occupied for a few hours and all in the name of sport - when will you need them again?
Must also mention Richard's quick movement to pinch his Mum's seat - boy can he move! Just remember though Richard, you have to sleep sometime and your mum can always get one on you then - no matter how big you are! I bet your mam has a lovely picture of you with your teddy bear!!! (revenge can be so cruel)
A great end to the Easter holiday's and one of the biggest athletic events I have been to with lots of runners from all clubs. Well done to all competitors and spectators.
